Introduction to linguistics, overview of the grammar of the Scandinavian languages. The place of the Scandinavian languages among the languages of the world and their characteristics. Basic concepts of grammar: segmental phonology, phonetic transcription (IPA and the Scandinavian national systems of transcription), complementary distribution, distinctive and non-distinctive oppositions, phonemes and allophones, phonological transcription, allophones, the description of phonemic systems, overlapping and defective distribution, distinctive features, the concept of natural classes. Suprasegmental (prosodic) phonology: phonotax, the concept of the syllable, quantity, stress, "accent", tonal accent in Swedish and Norwegian, the "stød" in Danish, intonation. Morphology.
